Jeffrey A. Joerres, ManpowerGroup Chairman and CEO, is one select executive from the world's most influential companies who was invited to serve as a Mentor at this "Summer Davos," held annually in China, to exchange experiences and ideas on managing economic issues. Earlier this year, Joerres co-chaired the B20 Task Force on Employment, which began with a robust discussions at the 2012 WEF Annual Meeting and culminated in delivering recommendations for focused actions to inspire sustainable employment creation at the G20 Summit in Mexico.
Joerres also co-chaired the WEF on Latin America in April 2012.
"This tumultuous global era, which ManpowerGroup identified last year as the Human Age, can only be successfully navigated by taking steps to ensure access to the right talent with the right skills that can ensure future success and economic growth," said Joerres. "The impact of the European crisis on the global economy, and how business and governments can recover from multiple shocks related to decelerating global growth, high unemployment and resource scarcity are all critical issues facing governments, businesses and individuals."
With the world's population now at 7 billion, the world faces opportunities and challenges on an unprecedented scale as current models buckle under the pressure of expansion. The discussions in Tianjin, incorporating leaders from business, government, academia, civil society and media, will focus on ensuring the right values, incentives and models are in place to deliver the best possible outcomes for global prosperity, national competitiveness and entrepreneurial growth for future generations.
"Globally, there are massive problems matching supply with demand — people need jobs and employers need workers, but companies simply cannot find people with the right blend of skills," said David Arkless, ManpowerGroup President of Corporate and Government Affairs. "Success is going to depend on a comprehensive analysis of future skills requirements and acting now to plug those skills gaps."
ManpowerGroup executives participating in this week's summit include: Joerres; Arkless, ManpowerGroup President of Corporate and Government Affairs; Darryl Green, ManpowerGroup President of Asia-Pacific and Middle East; and Danny Yuan, ManpowerGroup China Managing Director.
